Morning work was a silly Thanksgiving quiz. From there, we moved on to the morning meeting and spelling practice. After this, we used our Scholastic News online and paper resources to learn about the Wampanoag people and the Pilgrims. Ask your child about the the resilience of Tisquantum. You may have grown up learning about him as being named Squanto.
During math, we investigated even and odd numbers. We practiced verbalizing and then writing our thinking to explain our answers to questions. In science, we explored bags of solid objects and identified the materials they were made of. We will return to the items tomorrow for an extended discussion of their properties.
Quite a few first graders had a tough time choosing appropriate behaviors today. There was rudeness in both actions and words. We took some time as a class to all chill out with our heads down and the lights off. After this, we read the book What Does It Mean to Be Kind? by Rana DiOrio.
We will take the Unit 10 Spelling Test tomorrow.
