Happy Steamy Friday! The Question of the Day was: Have you ever found a chrysalis? Morning work was a quick butterfly vocabulary word search. We then moved on to the Unit 33 Spelling Test. The super bonus word was metamorphosis.
During reading, we analyzed the poem "Blue" in our Junior Great Books. The students selected what they thought was the bluest thing in the world and drew a picture of what an astronaut would see looking back at our blue world. Ask your child what was special about the way the words were arranged for us to read!
Inner Explorer practice continued focusing on emotions, this time it was confidence and fear. Mrs. Hensley taught the last civics class of the school year. During math, the boys and girls worked on their multi-digit addition and subtraction skills with partners. The afternoon specials class of the day was music.
During science, we returned to our previous unit on eggs/chicks for today's lesson. The first graders participated in a scavenger hunt to learn more facts about birds. They also worked on making symmetrical drawings of chicks and enjoyed The Hoboken Chicken Emergency for storytime.
Finally, the much anticipated Taste of Antarctica took place at the end of the day. This included food scientists and explorers in Antarctica might eat as well as, with a bit of imagination, food that penguins, whales, and leopard seals would eat. Ask your child about the event!
Our next Taste will be the Taste of the World, one of the components of our End of the Year Celebration. This will take place on Wednesday, June 19, at 2:00. We will enjoy food from all seven continents. The students will share their autobiographies in addition to several long-term projects completed in school. You don't want to miss it!
Have a wonderful weekend!
