I hope everyone had a great weekend! The school hallways look like quite a few parent-elves were at work creating banners for the teachers. The fire-breathing dragon outside Room 104 is quite impressive! Thank you!
The Question of the Day was: Have you finished all your timeline pictures? Morning Work was completing a short poem about what to do if there is a disagreement during recess. After this, it was time to focus on what has been happening in our eggs! The boys and girls learned about the Day 11, Day 12, and 13 developments. Ask your child about them! One interesting fact is that embryo now has down feathers. Mark and Nilah were our egg turners today.
We took some time to go outside to the Butterfly Garden to look at the flowers. It was wonderful to see so many tulips and daffodils blooming even after all that spring snow and rain. The first graders should be proud of what they have done to make Bell School a more beautiful place! Check out our Shutterfly site for more pictures of the garden.
During reading, we read "The Mud Family" in our Junior Great Books. The students discussed and wrote their wonderings about the story. Ask your child to tell you about it!
In math class, the students received two math books, one to work on at their own pace and one to work on together. The former is a chapter extending what we have already learned about two-digit addition and subtraction. The latter is a chapter about money and telling time. The students completed a Show What You Know and then explored bags of play money.
The specials class of the day was P.E. After this we returned to the computer lab to continue the life history timeline projects. We focused on the banner view of the project today. Each event will have a flag and a picture. Friday is our final day to work on this in school!
Our Continent of the Month is Antarctica. We dipped our toes into its icy waters by reading the funny book Pinkie Leaves Home. The first graders then received a tour of the Antarctica bulletin board and exploration table. We ended the class by reading the cleverly titled book Antarctica to learn some basic facts about this continent. Ask your child in what direction he/she would be walking if he/she started walking away from the South Pole!
We will work on our First Grade Memory Books tomorrow.
Parents, don't forget to donate to the Steppin' Fundraiser! Thank you very much for supporting Bell School.
