Happy rainy Monday! Micah and his family took care of the eggs this weekend. They came back this morning ready for more egg-turning in the classroom.
The Question of the Day was: Have you ever rolled down a hill? The morning work assignment was to finish the "How to Take Care of the Earth" paper started last week. After this, the boys and girls distinguished between oviparous and viviparous animals on another paper.
This week's spelling words are contractions. We took our first look at the Unit 29 words this morning and later heard several contractions used in the book Big Chickens Fly the Coop.
During social studies, the boys and girls were introduced to the Maori culture of New Zealand. We read the book Punga, the Goddess of Ugly and watched rugby players dance the haka.
The first graders reviewed subtraction and problem-solving skills during math today. They worked on the banner/poster view of their timeline projects in the computer lab. This was supposed to be our last time in the computer lab, but we will need a bit more time to finish the projects. P.E. was the other specials class of the day.
There were two science sessions today. During the first, the boys and girls learned what developments had taken place in the eggs over the weekend. Later, they learned about the Day 6 developments. Ask your child to tell you what has been happening in the eggs!
Luke, Parissa, and Scarlet turned the eggs in the incubator today. Everyone had the opportunity to actually see inside the eggs when the lights were turned off and we candled some of them. It was very exciting to see the big eyed embryo moving around in the egg!
