The Question of the Day was: Are you taking a trip during spring break? The students wrote sentences using spelling words for morning work. They then shared their sentences with their neighbors and wrote compliments about their work. Ask your child how he/she complimented his/her tablemate's writing!
The super bonus word on the Unit 27 spelling test was dormant. Following a recess break, we talked about signs of spring and took a nature walk around Bell School to look for these signs. Ask your child what he/she saw, especially in the butterfly garden!
Mrs. Hensley continued her civics lessons on responsibility today. Then, we welcomed two guests from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. They gave a presentation about the importance of water, keeping it clean, and what we can do to conserve it. They even brought a rain barrel to the room and explained how it works. The students received a coloring book as a parting gift.
Following lunch recess, Natalie shared her Student of the Week board. We learned that she received a giant chocolate bar for Christmas, she wants to be a photographer, and one of her talents is making friends.
We finished reading the book Bizarre Birds which included information about several birds found in Australia. After this, the boys and girls added the following items to their egg books: the Table of Contents, an Egg Calendar, a picture of an incubator, and information about the importance of using a thermometer. We also quickly peeked in on a mama hummingbird incubating an egg and keeping a newly hatched chick warm in her nest.
We also returned to the computer lab to work on the timeline projects. Ask your child about his/her progress! Finally, the students enjoyed STEAM class with Ms. Aldrin to close out the day and week.
Have a fabulous spring break!
