What a fabulous buddy-filled day! The big event on the agenda was our field trip to the Chicago Children's Museum. The first and fifth grade buddies were trip partners as they explored the interactive exhibits at the museum. They also completed a Math Mission together in the Michael's Museum exhibit area. When we returned to school the buddies had lunch and recess together. Ask your child for details about all this buddy time!
Other events of the day included spelling practice and an Inner Explorer session that explored the sense of touch. We also finished reading One Grain of Rice. Ask your child to compare/contrast this book with the book A Grain of Rice!
The first graders were introduced to a new type of morning work. We will begin the day by writing sentences. I will display four of the week's spelling words on the board. The students will write them on a piece of paper, circle three of them, and write a sentence for each word. Different students are at different levels of mastery when communicating in writing. This means I will be paying attention to a variety of skills depending on the student. These skills will include:
We ended the day with a video of Hans Christian Anderson's The Emperor and the Nightingale. Also, all pencils were returned at the end of the day making this a successful Day 2 of the Room 104 Pencil Challenge!
We will return to the computer lab tomorrow to continue working on our life history timeline projects!
