The Question of the Day was: Have you ever helped a friend? This tied in nicely with Upstander Week at school and Mrs. Hensley's Civics lesson about responsibility. The other specials class of the day was Art.
We reviewed yesterday's trip and the students wrote about the experience for their Fantastic First Grade Field Trips books. They also practiced using the Unit 21 spelling words and started a Quick Facts math paper.
During math, the first graders used compensation as a strategy in order to develop flexible thinking for 2-digit addition. We read Rocks in His Head and Rocks in My Pockets during Quiet Time. This was followed by another river rock investigation. Today, the students used techniques they experimented with earlier in the year to sort bags of river rocks by size. There was great teamwork at play in this activity today!
Our last class of the day was social studies. We finished watching the video about mummies, added symbols to the Africa page in our passports, and decorated thumb pianos. Try playing the pianos on top of different cups!
The first graders will learn how pencils are made tomorrow!
