Brr! We had a chilly adventure at North Park Village Nature Center. The first graders drilled holes and put spiles in two sugar maple trees, but it was too cold for the sap to run today. Ask your child for details about the trip! You may wish to return as a family in a month for the Sugar Maple Festival.
Back at school, the students enjoyed lunch and P.E. before being introduced to the Unit 21 spelling words. The day ended with a lesson about fabrics from West Africa. We looked at tie-dye cloth,, batik cloth, adinkra stamped cloth, Benin applique cloth, and korhogo cloth. After reading Kofi and His Magic, the students used adinkra stamps to create their own cloth sample. They also colored kente cloth patterns.
The first graders will write about the maple syrup trip tomorrow!
