Happy First Snow of the Year Day! The boys and girls were excited to see snow falling today. It didn't last long, but the first graders loved it. As we head into winter, boots will be worn more often. If your child wears boots to school, please send in a pair of shoes to be worn inside. They may be kept in school if you wish. Be sure to label your child's winter outerwear with his/her name or room number. If an item is lost, having Room 104 written on it will help it be returned to its owner.
The Question of the Day was: Do you know a veteran? After completing an abc order paper about veterans for morning work, the boys and girls learned about Veteran's Day. We watched a short video clip about veterans, made cards to thank veterans for their service, and created another collaborative poster. The cards and poster will be taken to a veteran's hospital.
Zaan and Mila's mother joined us as a guest speaker today to give a presentation about Diwali. The boys and girls enjoyed a story and created Diwali lamps. Thank you for helping us learn about the festival of lights!
In other news, the super bonus word on the Unit 9 Spelling Test was overcome. The entire school participated in a lockdown drill today. The first graders also checked out books from the library and listened to Cillian share his Student of the Week board. We learned that Cillian wants to be a scientist who discovers planets, he knows how to play chess, and he has eaten a bug!
Enjoy the long weekend! The fifth grade buddies will join us on Tuesday to help us count our Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF money.
