We love having chicks in the classroom! The Question of the Day was: Are you nervous about holding a chick? Everyone used a practice chick to show they could safely hold a chick. After that, the boys and girls took turns holding a real chick. That was definitely the highlight of the day. Ask your child about the chick he/she held!
During reading, we read a Scholastic News article about orangutan schools. It provided information as to why some baby orangutans don't have mothers to teach them how to be orangutans. Then, it described what humans are doing to help the orphaned orangutans become independent apes able to live on their own. The students used the text to look for details to answer questions about what they had read. They responded in complete sentences by using part of the questions in their answers.
During math, the students completed the End of the Year Math Performance Task. We also moved on to telling time. Today, we used practice clocks to tell time to the hour and half hour. We were careful to note where the hour hand is positioned when it is half past the hour.
Inner Explorer practice focused on forgiving others. I thought this was a well worded practice and encourage you to try it with your child at home. Other events of the day included Music Quiet Time, and time spent on various works-in-progress.
Please check homework folders tonight for the slideshow version of your child's life history timeline project. Once we overcome some technical difficulties with printing the posters, your child will receive the banner view of his/her life history timeline project.
We will catch up on Flat Stanley mail tomorrow morning!
